This Spicy Orange Creamsicle Smoothie checks all the boxes. It tastes amazing! The texture is creamy like any good smoothie would be—even though it has a blended root veggie. It's easy to prepare with only six key ingredients. Best of all (in our opinion), is it's rich in fiber, antioxidants, and phytochemicals—these are beneficial compounds found in whole plant foods ("Phyto" refers to plants). This smoothie can easily be made nut-free and soy-free.

  • Spicy Orange Creamsicle Smoothie (VEGAN)

This smoothie is reminiscent of that creamy popsicle made with orange-flavored sherbet and vanilla ice cream—but without the high fructose corn syrup, other additives, and the crash and burn afterward. High in beta carotene, Vitamins C and E, this smoothie is arguably a "superfood." The ginger, which is good for digestion, also gives it a spicy kick! Since this smoothie uses the orange, carrot, and ginger root (not their extracted juices), as well as a date, it's also high in fiber, which supports a healthy gut.

Spicy Orange Creamsicle Smoothie has 6 key ingredients:

  1. Carrot
  2. Orange (navel)
  3. Ginger root
  4. Sunflower Seeds
  5. Date or Simple Homemade Date Syrup
  6. Plain, unsweetened almond milk (okay to substitute with plain, unsweetened soy, hemp or coconut milk)

How to Prepare

  1. Soak a pitted date in hot water for 5 minutes to soften.
  2. Peel the orange and ginger root. If your carrot has rough spots, go ahead and peel that, too.
  3. Rough chop carrot and ginger to help it break down more quickly in the blender.
  4. Put all ingredients, plus ice, into a blender and blend at high speed for about 30 seconds.

Love this smoothie! Total sunshine in a glass ☀️😍 ☀️
I wasn’t sure I’d like it as I’ve never been a fan of orange creamsicles or Orange Julius, but I love it. It makes me happy to drink and I love sharing the love with others. Thank you for this creation!

We loved this smoothie, so light and refreshing and fun to have a beautiful bright orange drink!
We used cashews in lieu of sunflower seeds.

I made this smoothie today and didn't realize until it was time to put everything together that I bought the wrong sunflower seeds (grabbed the salted/roasted by mistake), so I substituted a Tablespoon of Hemp Hearts. Also, since not being a big ginger fan, I did not put the full amount in. And, being a big fan of Macadamia milk, I used that instead of the Almond milk. The smoothie was really good BUT I should have stuck with the full amount of ginger. Lesson learned. I will most definitely make it again, hopefully with the sunflower seeds and additional ginger. One thought...could you post an approximate weight on the chopped carrot? I have a bg of those baby carrots and had no clue of an adequate amount of them to use. A definite KEEPER!

Thank you for your feedback, Janne. Hemp hearts are a great substitute. Regarding the carrot--you got it! 🙂 I just updated the recipe to include the weight (about 100 grams or 3.5 ounces).

We might need more stars for this recipe. I was finally able to pick up oranges on the way to work yesterday and am just now enjoying this refreshing smoothie. You have to try this! When I make this again I’m definitely using more ginger.
