What You Need to Make This Smoothie
- Mixed Berries are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants that support immune health and promote glowing skin. They're high in fiber and vitamin K, aiding digestion and bone strength. Berries are loaded with brain-boosting antioxidants that help fight inflammation and support heart health, as well as anti-cancer compounds like ellagitannin.
- Bananas (preferably ripe) offer natural sweetness, potassium, and energy-boosting carbohydrates. You can also substitute an apple if you prefer.
- Hemp hearts (hemp seeds) are a plant-based source of complete protein and omega-3 fatty acids that support heart and brain health. Okay to substitute chia seeds.
- Coconut water is naturally hydrating and full of electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, making it great for recovery.
You can use either fresh or frozen berries. If using fresh berries, you will need to add ice cubes if you prefer it cold and frosty.
The ripe banana and coconut water provide a smooth, sweet creaminess, so you won't need maple syrup or agave to sweeten this smoothie.

Tips and Variations
- Try it with plant-based milk for less sweet liquid options. Unsweetened almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, or coconut milk will all work.
- Add some plant-based yogurt, like our homemade soy yogurt, for extra creaminess.
- For a nutrient boost, toss in a handful of leafy greens like spinach. It won't change the flavor much.
- For a more tropical twist, use pineapple juice, orange juice, or both for more tangy flavors.
- Add some almond butter or peanut butter to boost the healthy fats.
- Add a scoop of protein powder for a more filling meal.

Cassandra
Is there another option other than coconut water that could be used in this recipe? I tend to shy away from coconut anything for other health reasons.
Gigi & Sersie
Hi Cassandra - you can use half regular water and half orange juice. Or all regular water.
dani
easy and tastes good. can i use chia seeds next time? i have a lot i'm trying to use up
Gigi & Sersie
Hi Dani. We're so glad you enjoyed this smoothie. Yes, you can use chia seeds, but we recommend you start by using half of what the recipe calls for because it will alter the texture/consistency and thicken more as it sits. You can always add more if the consistency is okay for you.
