Why This Kale Smoothie is Good for Weight Loss

This smoothie was introduced as part of our 4-day challenge as a recipe in our sample meal plan. Many of the ladies in our group are trying to lose weight, and this smoothie provides the right nutrients for weight loss. It's high in fiber, antioxidants, and other beneficial compounds.

Nutritionally, kale, pineapple, and lime are excellent sources of vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant helpful for immune system health, tissue repair, and collagen formation. One study showed that those who regularly consume vitamin C-rich foods oxidize (or burn) more fat than those who don't.

Kale is also an excellent source of vitamin K. Vitamin K is necessary for blood and bone health. Kale is a low-calorie-dense food making it a great addition to this weight-loss smoothie.

Adding a small amount of avocado gives this smoothie a nice creamy texture while helping your body absorb the vitamin K in the kale.

Coconut water is an excellent source of potassium, an important mineral for electrolyte balance and heart health. So use this smoothie to fuel and hydrate your next workout!

Ingredients

  1. Kale
  2. Pineapple (frozen or fresh)
  3. Avocado
  4. Lime
  5. Coconut water

How to Prepare

If you're using frozen pineapple, you may not need ice. However, if you're using fresh pineapple, adding a cup of ice is recommended–and makes it even more refreshing.

Add chopped kale, pineapple, avocado, fresh lime juice, and unsweetened coconut water (no added sugar) to a high speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

This recipe makes two smoothies so if you're not sharing, put half into a mason jar to enjoy later. This smoothie keeps for 24 hours in the refrigerator before it starts to oxidize. So enjoy soon!

I was skeptical at first, but this has become a regular for me. when I don't have kale on hand, sometimes I use spinach. I feel so good after having this.
