ingredients for apple cider mocktail on a round dark gray plate: apple cider, fresh ginger root, apple, cinnamon sticks
ingredients: apple cider (no added sugar), fresh ginger root, cinnamon sticks, fresh apple. not pictured: ice and sparkling water

How to make this spiced and sparkling apple cider mocktail

Use a microplane grater to carefully grate the fresh ginger root. If you don't have a microplane grater, use a knife to mince the ginger finely.

Add apple cider, freshly grated ginger, cinnamon sticks, and cloves (if using) to a small pot. Bring to a gentle boil for 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it sit to "steep" and cool to room temperature.

Remove the cinnamon sticks from the apple cider mixture. Using a fine mesh strainer, carefully strain the mixture into a tall glass to remove the chunks of ginger.

Add ice and sparkling water to the glass. Gently stir to incorporate.

Top with fresh sliced apple, and enjoy!
