This healthy mocktail is high in the antioxidant Vitamin C, an important micronutrient for collagen production, and immune system health.

What you need to make this drink

  1. Grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed or store-bought with no added sugar)
  2. Sparkling water
  3. Lime
  4. Ice

key ingredients are grapefruit juice (no added sugar), fresh lime, and (not pictured) sparkling water and ice

You can use any type of grapefruit. I typically use ruby red or pink grapefruit juice, but you can use white grapefruit juice. It tastes just as good, the color will be a lighter.

How to make this grapefruit mocktail

Pour grapefruit juice and sparkling water into a glass with ice. Squeeze fresh lime juice, stir and enjoy! That's it.

This mocktail was created by a friend and Daniel Fast: A Bridge to Healthy Living program participant, Leslie. She makes this mocktail most nights of the week after a long, hard day at work as a healthy way to unwind. Thank you, Leslie, for sharing this with us!

Frequently Asked Questions

What are mocktails?

Mocktails are nonalcoholic versions of cocktails. Many are made with juice and replacements for alcohol, including sparkling water like this grapefruit mocktail.

Are mocktails healthy?

It all depends on the ingredients used to make the mocktail. Some mocktail recipes have added sugar or chemicals, like sugar-sweetened soft drinks or "diet" soft drinks. These ingredients add calories or chemicals and lack nutrients. However, this grapefruit mocktail recipe is healthy because of the high amount of vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant shown to stop free radicals and help with collagen production for skin health. Vitamin C can also boost immunity.

What about medications and grapefruit?

Eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice can alter certain medications. If you're taking medications, such as statin (cholesterol-lowering), blood pressure lowering, and antiarrhythmic drugs, consuming grapefruit can increase the side effects of these and other medications. So, be sure to check with your healthcare provider before consuming grapefruit. Check out this video, "Tell Your Doctor if You Eat Grapefruit," to learn more.

Previously, I wasn’t a fan of sparkling water, but this was a game changer. I tried this one and it was super refreshing.
