The Best Homemade BBQ Sauce is sweet and smoky. It’s fast and easy to prepare, and goes great with BBQ Tempeh Tacos, tofu, soy curls, veggie burgers, and grilled veggies.

Summertime screams for grilling, but fortunately, grilling need not only take place June to September. While growing up, I mostly used a charcoal grill, which was a hot mess. Thanks to the growth in propane grills and cast iron grill pans you can use on the stovetop, I find grilling with these techniques to be faster and more convenient. The Best Homemade BBQ Sauce

1 15-oz can tomato sauce

½ cup apple cider vinegar

¾ cup Simple Homemade Date Syrup (in

3 Tbsp coconut aminos

1 ½ tsp liquid smoke

1 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp fresh ground black pepper

½ tsp onion powder

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper for heat


Put all ingredients into a medium saucepan. Wisk until well incorporated. Cook over medium high until the sauce reaches a gentle boil. Then reduce heat to low and let simmer uncovered for 15 minutes or until the sauce slightly thickens. 

Enjoy immediately or store sauce in an airtight container for up to a week.
