Growing up in a Jamaican home, carrot juice was always a staple. I have vivid memories of Sunday dinners with a tall glass of sweet carrot juice—usually made with condensed milk and nutmeg—served alongside rice and peas. It was rich, comforting, and a little indulgent. This version is a refreshing, healing spin on the drink I grew up loving. It keeps the earthy goodness of carrots but adds bright citrus, fresh turmeric, and a health-boosting twist that fits where I am in life now—still rooted in tradition but with a focus on wellness.

Why You’ll Love This Juice

In short, this juice is:

  • Bright and refreshing
  • Loaded with vitamins A and C
  • Anti-inflammatory and immune-supportive
  • Naturally sweet with a citrusy zing

Ingredients

Ingredients for carrot orange lemon turmeric juice.
  1. Carrot: Packed with beta-carotene (which converts to vitamin A), carrots support eye health, immunity, and skin.
  2. Orange: Rich in vitamin C, oranges boost the immune system, help with collagen production, and have anti-inflammatory benefits.
  3. Lemon: Another excellent source of vitamin C, lemons aid digestion, support detoxification, and help alkalize the body.
  4. Turmeric Root: Contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound. It’s known for supporting joint and brain health.
  5. Black Pepper: Enhances the absorption of curcumin in turmeric (by up to 2,000%), and also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

This recipe makes about three 12-ounce servings of fresh juice.

Tips and Variations

👍 For immediately chilled juice, add ice to the catch pitcher.

👍 Don't skip adding the black pepper. Black pepper helps activate curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, enhancing its anti-inflammatory benefits.

👍 Feel free to add ginger root for an extra spicy kick. You could also add in a lemon ginger shot.

How to Prepare

  1. Wash and prep all your produce. Peel citrus fruits, if preferred. Chop into chunks so they will fit into the juicer.
  2. Juice carrots, oranges, lemons, and turmeric using your juicer.
  3. Stir well, divide into three 12 oz glasses (350 ml), or store in airtight jars.
  4. Just before drinking, add a light sprinkle of ground black pepper to each serving and stir.

Oranges are high in vitamin C, an antioxidant, shown to be beneficial for immune system health. Turmeric contains curcumin, which is anti-inflammatory, especially when combined with black pepper.

Can I make this juice in a blender?

Yes! If you don’t have a juicer, you can blend everything with a cup or two of water and strain through a nut milk bag or fine mesh strainer. It takes a little more effort but still delivers a delicious result.

Should I peel the turmeric root?

It’s up to you. If you’re using organic turmeric, a quick rinse may be enough. Peeling can reduce bitterness, but the skin contains nutrients too.

Can I use ground turmeric instead of fresh?

You can, but fresh turmeric has a brighter, more potent flavor and color. If using ground, start with ½ to 1 teaspoon per batch.
