Growing up in a Jamaican household, I still have fond memories of my mom making carrot juice every Sunday with dinner. So, making this recipe was nostalgic for me, as I am reminded of the perfect pairing of carrot and ginger but without the processed sugar and dairy. This carrot and ginger juice is light and refreshing with a spicy kick. This delightful concoction not only bursts with flavor but also offers numerous health benefits, making it a perfect addition to your morning routine, revitalizing afternoon pick-me-up, or as part of a detox cleanse.

Juicing is a great way to do a reset with your health. This, along with our Beet Carrot Apple Juice and Golden Beet Juice, will help you reset your taste buds and your body for kickstarting a healthy lifestyle.

This recipe makes about two 8-ounce (237ml) servings of deliciously fresh carrot and ginger juice.

What You'll Need To Make this Fresh Pressed Juice

  • Fresh Carrots
  • Fresh Ginger Root
  • Lemon

As far as equipment goes, you'll also need a juicer, cutting board, knife, and a container for the juice. We like both the Nama J2 cold press juicer and Breville juicer.

How To Make This Carrot and Ginger Juice

Prepare the Carrots: Wash the carrots thoroughly to remove any dirt or impurities. If you see any "rough" spots, feel free to peel them. Otherwise, leave the skin on for optimal nutritional value. Cut the carrots into chunks.

Prepare the Ginger: Wash and trim any rough spots on the ginger root. The amount of ginger you use can be adjusted based on your taste preference—use more for a spicier kick!

Two Options for the Lemon: To juice the whole lemon, wash and cut it into chunks since the lemon pith and peel contain beneficial nutrients. Alternatively, you can remove the peel and juice the flesh only.

Juicing: If you like chilled juice, add ice to the pitcher. When the juice comes out, the ice chills it. Place the pitcher in the appropriate spot according to the type of juicer you're using. Add the carrots, ginger, and lemon to your juicer and turn it on.

Mix and Serve: After the juicer has completed juicing, give it a good stir to combine all the ingredients and flavors. Pour the fresh pressed juice into a glass and enjoy immediately for the best taste and nutrient retention.

Leftovers: If you don't drink your juice immediately, transfer it to a sealed container or mason jar and store it in the refrigerator. Since it's not pasteurized, you'll want to consume the juice within 24 hours.

Nutritional Benefits of This Fresh Pressed Juice

  • Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which promotes good vision and supports your immune system. The carotenoids in carrots may reduce the risk of various types of cancer.
  • Ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and aids in digestion.
  • Lemon adds a refreshing zing while providing vitamin C, which is great for skin health and boosts your immune system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use baby carrots instead of regular carrots?

Yes, you can! Baby carrots are a convenient option but be aware that they might have a slightly different flavor profile, and because they're already peeled you're missing the nutrients in the skin.

How can I store leftover juice?

Fresh juice is best enjoyed immediately, but if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Give it a good shake before drinking, as some separation may occur.

Can I add other fruits or vegetables to this juice?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment by adding apples, oranges, or even a pinch of turmeric for extra health benefits and flavor.

Is it necessary to peel the ginger?

Peeling ginger is optional. If you wash it thoroughly, you can leave the skin on for added nutrients.

How often can I drink carrot ginger juice?

You can enjoy this juice daily! Just remember to maintain a balanced diet overall, as this juice is best as part of a diet rich in a variety of whole plant foods.
