Super Simple Marinara Sauce

This delicious simple marinara sauce has 7 ingredients. It's oil-free, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free and vegan.

This slightly chunky marinara sauce has a rich, deep flavor that can be used with pasta, lasagna, and as a sauce for pizza.

Super Simple Marinara Sauce has 7 key ingredients:

  1. Crushed tomatoes
  2. Diced tomatoes (regular or fire roasted)
  3. Italian seasoning (or oregano)
  4. Crushed red pepper
  5. Onion
  6. Garlic
  7. Simple Homemade Date Syrup

How to make this marinara sauce from scratch

Preheat a large pot over medium heat. Dry sauté diced onion for 4 to 5 minutes.

Add minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and crushed red pepper. Stir to incorporate, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.

Stir in both of the canned tomatoes. Increase the heat to medium-high to bring the sauce to a gentle boil. Then reduce heat to low and let simmer uncovered for 30 to 40 minutes.

Stir in Simple Homemade Date Syrup, and turn off the heat. Salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy with your favorite pasta dish or as a sauce for pizza.

This tomato sauce keeps well in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to four days or freezer for up to four months.

There's not much of a difference. Some say that spaghetti sauce has meat, while marinara does not. However, they're generally used interchangeably. The difference between this marinara sauce recipe and the vegan spaghetti sauce recipe is that this recipe has more chunks of tomatoes and veggies.

How do you store leftovers?

This sauce keeps well in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to four days. This is also a great meal prep sauce because it's freezer friendly. Put marinara sauce in a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to four months—thaw in the refrigerator and reheat on the stove or microwave.
